Most earthquakes are so weak that they cause almost no damage.
بيشتر زلزله ها آنقدر ضعيف هستند كه تقريباً هيچ آسيبي را سبب نمي شوند.
It was such a rainy day that we couldn’t go walking.
آنچنان روز باراني بود كه ما نتوانستيم به پياده روي برويم.
So,such در اين مثال ها به معناي «آنقدر و آنچنان» هستند و معناي قيد يا صفتي را كه بعد از آن مي آيد، شدت مي بخشند.
2 – so قبل از صفت يا اسم مي آيد و به دنبال آن يك that clause يعني جمله اي كه با that آغاز مي شود
So + صفت يا قيد+ that + …….
3 – such قبل از صفت همراه اسم مي آيد و به دنبال آن يك that claue مي آيد.
Such + صفت يا قيد+ اسم + that +………
ب) كاربرد too , enough در عبارات قيدي
1 – به جملات زير توجه كنيد.
The situation ofter the earthquake was too bad to explain.
وضعيت بعد از زلزله براي توصيف بسيار بد بود.
She isn’t old enough to go to school yet.
او هنوز به حد كافي بزرگ نشده كه به مدرسه برود.
كلمه enough بعد از صفت يا قيد در جمله قرار مي گيرد و حد كافي را مي رساند. كلمه too بر سر صفت يا قيد مي آيد و به آن شدت مي بخشد. Too در اينجا به معناي خيلي زياد مي باشد.
2 – كلمه enough به معناي كافي گاهي قبل از اسم مي آيد و در اين صورت نقش صفت را بازي مي كند مانند :
Enough money پول كافي
Enough experience تجربه كافي
3 – هنگامي كه enough بعد از صفت يا قيد در جمله بيايد بعد از آن مي تواند فعل به صورت مصدر با to قرار گيرد به صورت زير :
صفت يا قيد+ enough + toمصدر با + …..
به يك مثال ديگر توجه كنيد:
She is experienced enough to get this job.
او به حد كافي با تجربه هست كه اين شغل را بگيرد.
هنگامي كه در جمله too بر سرصفت يا قيد مي آيد معمولاً به دنبال آن فعل مصدري با to قرار مي گيرد. در اين صورت ظاهر جمله مثبت است ولي مفهوم آن منفي است.
Too + صفت يا قيد + toمصدر با + ……..
به اين مثال توجه كنيد:
I was too busy to talk to you last week.
من هفته گذشته خيلي گرفتار بودم كه با شما صحبت كنم. و يا بهتر است بگوييم «من هفته گذشته آنقدر گرفتار بودم كه نتوانستم با شما صحبت كنم.
4 – گاهي به دنبال too , enough كه بر سر صفت يا قيد آمده باشد، حرف اضافه for و يك مفعول اسمي يا ضميري مي آيد و سپس فعل مصدري با to نوشته مي شود. مانند
It is too hard for me to lave my family.
براي من خيلي سخت است كه خانواده ام راترك كنم.
5 – كاربرد that بعد از enough و too همراه يك جمله (مانند كاربرد that clause در توضيحات so, such) اشتباه است.

نقش جمله

1 – يكي از نقش هاي جمله «نام گذاري كردن » يا Naming است.گاهي اوقات نويسنده با يك توصيف كوتاه يا بلند به يك شخص يا يك شيء نام يا لقب مي دهد. اغلب در اين گونه جملات كلماتي مانند be called – named – known استفاده مي شود. مانند :
The scientific study of the earth is called geology.
2 – از ديگر نقش هاي جمله «فرضيه ساختن» يا «Hypothesizing» است. هنگام فرضيه ساختن نويسنده سعي دارد براي توضيح بيشتر چيزي كه نمي شناسيم يا نمي دانيم راهي را پيشنهاد دهد. اغلب در اين موارد از كلماتي مانند be thought- believed- estimated استفاده مي شود. مانند :
It is thought that about too shocks each year have this power they accrue in a populated area.

درس سوم زبان پیش دانشگاهی یک

درس سوم :
مهارت هاي خواندن
(Adjective clause -Adjective phrase )

1 – يكي از مهارت هاي خواندن درك روابط ميان بخش هاي مختلف متن از طريق شناسايي ضماير و مراجع آن هاست.
1 – كلمه هاي نشان دهنده تضاد مانند:
(although = اگرچه)
(though = گرچه)
(unlike = برعكس)
(even= حتي)
(Instead of = به جاي)
و ... و كلمات اطراف واژه ناآشنا شما را در پي بردن به معني آن كلمات ياري مي دهد.

دستور زبان

مبحث گرامري اين درس عبارت وصفي كوتاه شده مي باشد كه در زير به توضيح در مورد آن مي پردازيم.
1. گروهي از كلمات مرتبط به هم كه فاعل و فعل ندارند يك Phrase يا عبارت ناميده مي شوند.
2. Adjective clause
در اين صورت ضمير موصولي ( مانند that , which , who…) حذف مي شود و فعل جمله به صورت Ing دار نوشته مي شود.
اكنون با آوردن مثال در مورد نكات دستوري بالا توضيح بيشتري داده مي شود.
مثال :
Heat which is trapped in the atmosphere causes the earth to get warmer.
which is trapped in the atmosphere: adjective clause
Heat trapped in the atmosphere causes the earth to get warmer.
trapped in the atmosphere :Adjective phrase
در عبارت وصفي كوتاه شده ضمير موصولي which و فعل جمله كه از مشتقات فعل to be مي باشد يعني is حذف شده است.
All over the world, there are people who pollute the land, the sea, and the air.
who pollute the land, the sea, and the air adjective clause
All over the world, there one people polluting the land, the sea, and the air.
polluting the land, the sea, and the air:Adjective phrase
ملاحظه مي كنيد كه فعل اين جمله از مشتقات to be نيست بلكه فعل آن pollute مي باشد. براي كوتاه كردن اين قضيه وصفي به عبارت وصفي ضمير موصولي who حذف شده است و فعل به صورت Ing دار يعني polluting نوشته شده است و يا به عبارت ديگر
who pollute = polluting

نقش جمله

1 – يكي از نقش هاي جمله (Defining = تعريف كردن – بيان مفهوم) مي باشد. در اين حالت نويسنده مي خواهد كه مفهوم چيزي را بيان كند تا خواننده بهتر متوجه آن مطلب شود. مانند
Climate is the average of a regions weather over a period of time.
آب و هوا يعني ميانگين هواي يك منطقه در طي يك دوره زمان.
2 – از ديگر نقش هاي جمله مي توان به (speculation = حدس زدن) اشاره كرد. وقتي كه شما اطلاعات كافي در مورد مطلبي نداريد مي توانيد در مورد آن حدس بزنيد. در اين گونه جملات اغلب از كلمات احتمال مانند:
(may= ممكن بودن)
(probably= احتمالاً)
(possibly= ممكن بودن ، احتمالاً)
(can = توانستن)
(maybe = شايد)
(perhaps = شايد) استفاده مي شود.
The earth could get warmer by itself.
زمين امكان دارد خودش خود به خود گرم تر شود.

Wanted To Know How His pig's Doing

Two mayors made a bet on the outcome of the Vegetable Bowl, the annual football game between their high school teams If Arvada's. team lost, the mayor of Arvada would send the mayor of Boulder ten pounds of sliced potatoes, ready for frying. If Boulder's team lost, the mayor would send ten pounds of sliced tomatoes, ready for sandwiches or salads.
Unfortunately, before the game started, the mayor of Boulder overheard the Arvada mayor tell someone: "They grow the worst tomatoes. If they lose and send us their tomatoes, I'm going to give them all to my pig." The mayor of Boulder was upset to hear this, because he thought Boulder's tomatoes were the best in the state. So he gave the matter some thought.
The following week, the big game was played. Boulder lost its star quarterback in the first half when he tripped over a cheerleader and sprained his big toe. The quarterback glumly watched the rest of the game from the bench. His team ended up losing, 38 to 12.
The two mayors shook hands after the game, and the Arvada
mayor said, "I'm really looking forward to those tomatoes." As the Boulder team left the stadium, some unhappy fans threw ripe tomatoes at them.
A week later, the mayor of Arvada received a package of beautifully sliced tomatoes. He took them `straight to his pig, which gobbled them right up. That night the mayor of Boulder asked his
wife if Arvada's mayor had called. "No," she said. "Why?" "Because
I mixed a pint of hot sauce into the tomatoes and I wanted to
know how his pig's doing."

Words and Their Stories

Begin pArSTools.com -->

(MUSIC)
Every people has its own way of saying things, its own special expressions. Many everyday American expressions are based on colors.
Red is a hot color. Americans often use it to express heat. They may say they are red hot about something unfair. When they are red hot they are very angry about something. The small hot tasting peppers found in many Mexican foods are called red hots for their color and their fiery taste. Fast loud music is popular with many people. They may say the music is red hot, especially the kind called Dixieland jazz.
Pink is a lighter kind of red. People sometimes say they are in the pink when they are in good health. The expression was first used in America at the beginning of the twentieth century. It probably comes from the fact that many babies are born with a nice pink color that shows that they are in good health.
Blue is a cool color. The traditional blues music in the United States is the opposite of red hot music. Blues is slow, sad and soulful. Duke Ellington and his orchestra recorded a famous song – Mood Indigo – about the deep blue color, indigo. In the words of the song: “You ain’t been blue till you’ve had that Mood Indigo.” Someone who is blue is very sad.
The color green is natural for trees and grass. But it is an unnatural color for humans. A person who has a sick feeling stomach may say she feels a little green. A passenger on a boat who is feeling very sick from high waves may look very green.
Sometimes a person may be upset because he does not have something as nice as a friend has, like a fast new car. That person may say he is green with envy. Some people are green with envy because a friend has more dollars or greenbacks. Dollars are called greenbacks because that is the color of the back side of the paper money.
The color black is used often in expressions. People describe a day in which everything goes wrong as a black day. The date of a major tragedy is remembered as a black day. A blacklist is illegal now. But at one time, some businesses refused to employ people who were on a blacklist for belonging to unpopular organizations.
In some cases, colors describe a situation. A brown out is an expression for a reduction in electric power. Brown outs happen when there is too much demand for electricity. The electric system is unable to offer all the power needed in an area. Black outs were common during World War Two. Officials would order all lights in a city turned off to make it difficult for enemy planes to find a target in the dark of night
